Paderewski... Paderewski...
To commemorate the 160th anniversary of I. J. Paderewski's birth on November 6, 2020, the Jagiellonian Library has prepared an online exhibition that presents objects related to this person in the JB's Special Collections Department. Through manuscripts, photographs, press clippings, catalogs, occasional prints, etc., we want to recall the profile of this outstanding pianist, composer and statesman, who held a number of offices in the Polish diaspora movement and in the structures of reborn Poland (in 1919 he was the prime minister and minister of foreign affairs ). Our intention is to present Paderewski's activity in the artistic, social and political arena, without avoiding the private aspect of his life. The presented historical sources are unique. In addition to the "great history", you can see fragments of Paderewski's everyday life, his family relations, his intimate world, see the pulsating life of an individual and through them the spirit of the times. Thus, we create an opportunity to present the aspects of the biography of this historical hero in less known, hidden, non-obvious conventions. From the perspective of silence, or better known and routine habits also preserved by education, it would be worth paying attention to such an unconventional silhouette in a broad-context approach, to open up to new, somewhat foreign content. We hope that such a learning opportunity is offered by our exhibition.
