Search for: [Abstract = One of the many issues approached by the project Teaching Polish language and literature in lower secondary school in the context of the new core curriculum has become the comprehension of the concept of patriotism, when broached as a subject during Polish language classes and how it is perceived by students and teachers. The article first reports results from quantitative research, which formed the foundation for qualitative analysis of interviews with teachers and then students \(second part\), in terms of prevalent opinion and attitudes towards patriotic values. Opinions and attitudes were varied, with origins in literature education and the personal beliefs of teachers. The third part of the study investigated opinion from both sides of the educational process on two readings, considered essential to demonstrate patriotic content – Krzyżacy and Kamienie na szaniec. The conclusions are summarised with suggestions for application in teaching.]
